App-based carpooling banned in Bengaluru, fine up to ₹10,000 to be imposed

The Karnataka government has announced a ban on app-based carpooling services in Bengaluru.

A fine ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 will be imposed if anyone is found violating the government order.

Many ride-hailing apps like BlaBla Car, Quickride, Rideshare, Commute Easy and Carpool Adda were running carpool services.

The ban comes after taxi associations complained to the government that the carpooling services are affecting their daily earnings.

The taxi associations and the autorickshaw drivers' unions recently staged a bandh in the city.

The city often witnesses massive traffic jams. Only days ago, Bengaluru residents were left frustrated after getting stuck in a massive traffic jam. The congestion led to a delay of 5 hours for some commuters.
