Thane, June 27 (PTI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, also the head of the Shiv Sena, has declared that Thane city will soon be home to a 42-metre-tall statue of his mentor, Anand Dighe.
Shinde made this announcement on Thursday during the ‘bhoomi pujan’ (groundbreaking) ceremony aimed at renovating the Shivaji Maidan clock tower, where the statue is set to be erected.
According to Shinde, the renovated area will not only feature the towering statue but also include various amenities focused on the well-being of citizens.
Anand Dighe, a widely respected Shiv Sena leader from the Thane region, passed away in August 2001 due to a heart attack following an accident.
Shinde confirmed that a budget of Rs 11 crore has already been sanctioned for the project. "When it comes to Dighe Saheb, because of whose blessings I became the chief minister, there will never be any paucity of funds," he emphasized.
