Chandigarh, May 27: A man suspected to be affiliated with a terrorist group lost his life in an explosion that occurred on Tuesday near Majitha Road in Amritsar, according to police reports. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh from Amritsar Rural stated that the incident happened while the individual was attempting to handle some explosive material, which likely detonated due to mishandling. The SSP indicated a potential link between the deceased and a terror organization. "The individual appeared to be a foot soldier tasked with retrieving the explosives," he mentioned. The site was examined by experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory, who collected samples of the explosive material, as reported by the police. Local residents recounted experiencing a loud blast, which resulted in considerable panic in the vicinity. Authorities have now cordoned off the area for safety.
