Amravati, July 30 (PTI): In a remarkable medical case in Amravati city, Maharashtra, doctors have successfully removed nearly half a kilogram of hairball from the stomach of a 10-year-old girl through surgery. The young patient had been suffering from digestion-related issues.

Paediatric surgeon Dr. Usha Gajbhiye from the private hospital where the surgery took place announced to reporters on Tuesday that the girl had been consuming hair for an extended period.

The child was brought to the hospital 20 days ago, complaining of symptoms such as vomiting, a decrease in appetite, and weight loss over a span of five to six months.

After undergoing a medical examination and counselling, the girl revealed to Dr. Gajbhiye that she had a habit of eating hair.

The examination uncovered a significant mass of hair in her stomach, which had formed into a ball.

Dr. Gajbhiye explained, "We decided to operate, and during the surgery conducted a few days ago, we found about half a kilogram of hairball in her stomach."

The procedure was successful, and the girl has since been able to eat properly without any further issues.

She is expected to be discharged soon, Dr. Gajbhiye added.
