Srinagar, Sep 4 (PTI) Authorities in Kashmir have issued a cautionary alert for residents living in houseboats on Dal Lake following a rise in water levels in the River Jhelum, which has now exceeded the danger mark of 21 feet.
The official spokesperson from the Jammu & Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority highlighted the situation, noting the advisory targets those residing in and around Dal Lake, with a particular focus on Dal dwellers and houseboat owners.
“With the current surge in River Jhelum, there may be a need to open the gate at Ram Munshi Bagh as a measure to manage water levels. If this happens, Dal Lake's water level, currently at 10.5 feet, will likely rise further, posing a potential risk to Dal dwellers and houseboat owners,” the spokesperson stated.
Residents have been urged to adopt all necessary safety measures and stay alert. They have also been advised to prepare for possible relocation to relief centers designated by the District Administration, Srinagar, if the situation escalates.
