Ahmednagar to be called Ahilya Nagar, 8 Mumbai train stations renamed

The Maharashtra Cabinet on March 13 approved renaming of Ahmednagar district as Ahilya Nagar.

The Cabinet also decided to rename eight railway stations in Mumbai.

Mumbai Central Station will be renamed as Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth Station, Curry Road as Lalbaug, Sandhurst Road as Dongri, Marine Lines as Mumbadevi, Cotton Green as Kalachowki, Charni Road as Girgaon, Dockyard Road as Mazgaon and King Circle to Tirthankar Parshvanath. The proposal has been sent to the railways ministry.

The State Cabinet has also approved the purchase of 2.5 acres of land in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to construct a Maharashtra Bhavan there. The budget proposal for the same was already in the state budget in the previous budget session of the Maharashtra Assembly.

A proposal for the construction of a sea link between Uttan (Bhayander) and Virar (Palghar) has also been approved.
