Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 28 (PTI) A senior IPS officer from the Kerala cadre, nearing the end of his decades-long service, has passed away due to an illness, police sources reported.

ADGP Mahipal Yadav, who was serving as the Excise Commissioner in Kerala, died in his home state of Rajasthan on Wednesday. His death occurred just hours before a formal farewell function scheduled in his honor by the state police.

Yadav had been under medical treatment for some time in Rajasthan. His official retirement date was set for August 30.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences, stating that Yadav’s passing on the day of his farewell was "utmost painful."

In a statement from the CMO on Wednesday, Vijayan praised Yadav for his honesty and commitment to the people, highlighting his ability to implement state government policies effectively.

"He was able to implement the policies and actions of the state government without compromise," Vijayan remarked.

The Chief Minister described Yadav as an exemplary role model due to his sincerity and leadership skills.

Senior police officials, led by DGP Ravada A Chandrasekhar, gathered to pay their respects to Yadav during a special meeting held at the police headquarters on Wednesday.
