For the first time in five years, as many as 45 seats across various Indian Institute of Technology branches remained vacant.

This year, 17,340 candidates were allotted seats in the 23 IITs, while the total number of available seats was 17,385.

In the last five years,  the number of seats allotted after the counselling was always been more than the number of available seats.

Explaining the issue, an IIT Delhi professor said the students may be finding non-IIT options to be more attractive post-pandemic.
