Around 36 inmates at a Lucknow district jail were found infected with HIV during a routine blood test. The matter came to light when the health department conducted a routine examination of 3,000 prisoners in December 2023, on the orders of the UP AIDS Control Society. Hindustan news outlet reported that officials are making efforts to find out the reasons for the spread of the infection. There were already 11 HIV-positive prisoners, taking the total number of cases to 47.
