Sangareddy (Telangana), Jul 1 (PTI): The death toll from the explosion at Sigachi Industries' pharma plant in Pashamylaram has risen to 35, according to police sources.
District Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj informed PTI that the toll has indeed reached 35, although he refrained from providing additional details.
"While clearing the debris, several bodies were discovered. We have managed to extricate 31 bodies so far. Additionally, three individuals succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The final phase of the rescue operation is still underway," he stated in the morning.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with some cabinet members, visited the scene of the accident.
When asked, a senior official from Pranaam Hospitals in Miyapur revealed that 21 patients with burns and head injuries were admitted on Monday. Sadly, two were declared brought dead, and another passed away this morning.
Over at Dhruva Hospitals in Patancheru, a senior official informed PTI that they received 11 patients on Monday, of which two were referred to superspeciality hospitals.
“Among the nine remaining patients, five are on ventilators. We are treating seven patients with burns ranging from 40-80%, and two others with 10% burns,” the official said.
As per a revenue department official, only nine bodies have been identified so far, while DNA profiling is necessary for the others. Many of the deceased hailed from other states, such as Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar.
The catastrophic incident on Monday is suspected to have originated from a chemical reaction.
