Kerala Sahitya Akademi Announces 2024 Awards for Malayalam Literature

Thrissur (Kerala), Jun 26 (PTI) The Kerala Sahitya Akademi unveiled the recipients of its 2024 literary awards on Thursday, celebrating the contributions of both rising talents and well-established figures in Malayalam literature.

Awarded the honor for best novel, writer G R Indugopan's work "Aano" received acclaim, while poet Anitha Thampi was recognized for her poetry collection "Muringa Vazha Kariveppu".

In the short story category, V Shinilal was distinguished for his piece "Garisappa Aruvi Athava Oru Jalayathra".

For his essays, CPI(M) leader M Swaraj received the Sibi Kumar Endowment Award with "Pookkalude Pusthakam". Veteran authors K V Ramakrishnan and Ezhacheri Ramachandran were celebrated with the prestigious Akademi Fellowship and Lifetime Contribution Award due to their profound and enduring contributions to Malayalam literature.

Additional significant awards include Sashidharan Naduvil for drama, G Dileep for literary criticism, Deepak V for scientific literature, and Dr K Rajashekharan Nair in the biography/autobiography category.

The award for travel writing was given to K R Ajayan, while Chinthu Prakash was honored for translation work.

In children's literature, E N Sheeja was acknowledged, and Niranjan received commendation for humor writing.

Each one of these awards consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000, along with a plaque and a certificate.

The Fellowship and Lifetime Contribution Awards offer Rs 50,000, a two-sovereign gold medal, a citation, a shawl, and a plaque.

Six writers—P K N Panicker, Payyannur Kunhiraman, M M Narayanan, T K Gangadharan, K E N, and Mallika Yunis—were also honored with Lifetime Contribution Awards. They will each receive Rs 30,000, along with a plaque, shawl, and certificate.

The Akademi noted that no work met the criteria for the Vilasini Award this year.
