India on Tuesday reported 28,204 new Covid cases in 24 hours, its lowest in almost five months, with the total tally at 3,19,98,158. 373 deaths were reported over the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative death count to 4,28,628.
India's daily positivity rate stands at 1.87%, which is less than 3 per cent for last 15 days.
Over 51 crore Covid vaccine doses have been administered in India since the nationwide vaccination drive began, according to the health ministry.

1) The Delta variant of Covid-19, which led to a massive surge in cases during the second Covid-19 wave, remains the dominant strain in circulation in Delhi. It has been detected in at least 80% of the samples sent for genome sequencing by the Delhi government in the last three months. Earlier in April, the Delta variant was found in 53.9% of the samples.
2) Maharashtra's Covid-19 task force has discussed the possibility of granting more relaxations in Covid-19 curbs while observing precautions, according to reports. The Uddhav Thackeray government is identifying new areas and preparing guidelines.
3) Kerala, which saw a sharp rise in Covid cases a few weeks ago, reported 13,049 cases on Tuesday, the most number of cases reported by a state on a single day. It also reported 105 deaths.
4) In Karnataka, after the state govt announced a weekend curfew with additional curbs, authorities have clarified that there were no plans of imposing a lockdown in the state. Karnataka on Monday reported 1,186 new cases of Covid-19 and 24 deaths.
5) In order to contain the spread of Covid-19, the Uttarakhand government has re-imposed a seven-day long curfew in the state, starting Tuesday. The restrictions will be in place till August 17.
