In the absence of recently-appointed vice-captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul is all set to be Virat Kohli's deputy for the 3-match Test series against South Africa.

According to reports in ANI and PTI, it has been confirmed that Rahul would be the vice-captain of team India during the Test series in South Africa. Rohit was named India's red-ball vice-captain but the Mumbaikar was ruled out of the South Africa Tests due to a hamstring injury.

Rahul has been Rohit's deputy for the three-match T20I series against the Kiwis. Both Rohit and Rahul were not part of two-match Tests against New Zealand. Notably, Cheteshwar Pujara was Kohli's deputy when the regular captain returned for the second and final Test vs New Zealand.
