In an unfortunate incident, a whale shark weighing about 7 tonnes, was washed ashore at the Valinokkam Beach in Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram on Sunday.
Ironically, the incident took place on International Whale Shark Day. Locals gathered at the spot and tried to fathom the reason for the death of the endangered species.
According to forest officials, who carried out the postmortem of the large fish, the whale shark was likely hit by a large vessel.
