Huawei is all set to launch its custom operating system for smartphones, called HarmonyOS, on June 2.

The company is trying to recover from the setback of US sanctions, which banned Google from providing technical support to it for Android, effectively banning it from using the OS.

Huawei is also barred from using US-origin technology, including chip designs, after the Trump administration argued it is a threat to US national security.

Huawei’s upcoming and current phones will all use HarmonyOS, though no details on update dates have been shared yet.

Once the largest smartphone maker in the world, Huawei is now ranked sixth globally, with a 4% market share.
