Last April, scientists of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project shared a 'historic' photograph of the black hole lurking at the heart of the galaxy M87.

It seems like over time, more secrets about M87* are coming out in the open.

Now, unpublished data shows that the crescent shadow surrounding the black hole is wobbling and has rotated over the last decade of observation.

According to a new study published in The Astrophysical Journal, the wobbly ring is big news for scientists as this region holds the key to certain phenomenon like launching relativistic jets.

The wobbly ring is due to the turbulent matter falling onto the black hole.
