Amid cultural clashes and Covid19, a slum in Agartala presented an example of Hindu-Muslim unity by organising Durga Puja as a collective. The people in the slum have been doing this since past 19 years, and this time too, the Mollapur slum set up a Durga Puja pandal at Tular Maath playground.
The slum has a Durga Puja committee here consists of 31 members, including 18 Muslims and 13 Hindus. As an exception, this time the committee took no money from those outside their slum. The residents who are mostly daily wagers, rickshaw pullers and vendors raised Rs 55,000 among themselves, and through donations from some patrons, managed to arrange Rs 80,000 for the Puja.
