Responding to pleas challenging his appointment, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana told the Delhi High Court on Friday that the petitions are not bonafide public interest litigations
He added the petition were only abuse of the forum of the court for some hidden personal vendetta to derail his career.

He claimed that two organisations Common Cause and Centre for Public Interest Litigations have for some undisclosed reason started selective actions against him. Asthana said that there is a malicious campaign propagated either through tweets or articles or shadow PILs against him. He also added that outside court the people running these organisations spearhead a campaign to malign him.
The Centre had earlier justified Asthana’s appointment stating he was given charge because he had the exposure of complexities of governance and nuances of broad canvas policing.
