Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea, who is currently in jail, has written a letter to the CBI claiming that a fellow inmate has told her that she had seen Mukerjea's daughter Sheena alive in Kashmir.

Mukerjea is facing trial for allegedly killing her daughter from her first marriage Sheena Bora in 2012 and has been lodged in a Mumbai jail since 2015. Her former husband Peter Mukerjea, ex-CEO of Star India, and Sanjeev Khanna are the co-accused in the case. Peter was granted bail last year.

Her lawyer has said that Mukerjea will be moving a formal application on December 28 asking CBI to investigate the claims made by the jail inmate.

Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled to death in a car by Indrani Mukerjea, her then driver Shyamvar Rai and Khanna in April 2012. Her body was burnt and dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district, according to investigators
