The Supreme Court has come down heavily on Centre over a large number of vacancies in tribunals in the country. Issuing a notice to the Centre giving it a week to fill the vacancies, Chief Justice NV Ramana said that the court feels that the govt has no respect for the court.

Chief Justice Ramana added that the govt was testing its patience by not making the required appointments in the tribunals.

Saying that the Supreme Court was upset with the govt but did not want any confrontation, the Chief Justice reminded the Centre of the speedy approvals and appointments for top court judges and asked why nothing was being done to fill vacancies in tribunals.

The Centre had last month approved names of 9 judges for elevation to the Supreme Court.
