Government proposes a ban on Colistin use in animals

According to a Livemint report, the government has proposed a ban on the use of colistin. It's an antibiotic used in the meat and poultry industry to help animals grow faster. The abundant use of this antibiotic is leading to antibiotic resistance in humans. Companies like Venky's that supplies to McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC, have been using Colistin, an investigation by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism revealed. FSSAI has urged industries not to use the drug on animals.
