Whether it’s an infection or a flu, recovering from an illness demands a lot from the body. The body has to essentially work overtime so here are some foods that can assist the body in healing itself back to health.
A key antioxidant, Vitamin C cannot treat your illness but it can surely help the body nurse itself. The vitamin often gets depleted when you get ill. Adding some extra to your diet helps white blood cell production and reduce the severity of infection. Oranges, broccoli, kiwi, spinach are all great sources.
Protein helps in building and repairing tissue. The recommended daily intake as per Harvard is 46-56 grams but it may be beneficial to increase it a little to give your body’s recovery process a boost. Have spinach, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, paneer, nuts and seeds.
Keeping your hydration in check is often recommended when you’re sick. Being dehydrated can cause thicker mucus, which will delay the cold from leaving your system. Whether sick or recovering, make sure your day is full of water, water-rich fruits and clear broths. Avoid dehydrating drinks like caffeine, alcohol and soda!
