New research from Chinese scientists has found that flushing the toilet propels virus droplets upwards and out of the toilet bowl. They shared that virus can travel up to 3 feet from ground level due to flushing basing their findings on computer models. Publishing their work in the journal Physics of Fluids, the team suggested that closing the lid before you flush could prevent this.

While Covid-19 spreads through cough or sneezing, it has been observed that people who are infected could also have traces of the virus in their faeces. They also recommend practising good toilet hygiene to minimise virus spread.
