The Dominican High Court on Saturday denied bail to the fugitive diamantaire, Mehul Choksi. Deeming Choksi as flight risk, the court said he has no ties with Dominica and the court cannot impose any conditions which will assure it that he would not abscond. The court highlighted that Choksi wants to live with his brother in a hotel, which is not a fixed residence, and added that the trial has not started yet.

While Choksi's lawyer argued for bail on medical grounds, the court said that he did not provide any strong surety and is a flight risk as well.

Choksi who is one of the main accused in the ₹14,000 crore PNB scam, has got interim relief from immediate repatriation to India by the Dominican Court.
