First woman to win the highest honour in maths

A professor from the University of Texas has recently been awarded the highest honour in mathematics. Professor Karen Uhlenbeck received the Abel Prize for her work on "minimal surfaces" such as soap bubbles, making her the first woman to bag this award. A role model for budding mathematicians, Professor Uhlenbeck will also receive £530,000 as prize money.
