Protesting farmers and Haryana government on Saturday reached a consensus after days of farmers agitation at the mini secretariat in Karnal. The farmers have called off their protest after talks with the state government.

The Haryana government has ordered a probe by a retired high court judge into the police action on farmers in Karnal on August 28.

It has also been decided that former Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha, who was caught on camera directing cops to "smash farmers' heads", will go on leave pending the probe.

The state government has said that the probe into police action, which led to the death of a protesting farmer, will be completed within a month.

Further, the government has also promised jobs to two members of the family of the deceased farmer.

The farmers have been sitting on dharna outside the mini secretariat in Karnal for the last five days over their demand to sack then Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha and register a case against him.
