Facebook has introduced the first-ever, open-source multilingual machine translation (MMT) model that can translate between any pair of 100 languages without relying on English data.
The M2M-100 is trained on 2,200 language directions and is thought to be more accurate because it doesn't have to use English as an intermediary translation step.
Facebook said it already handles an average of 20 billion translations every day on its news feed.
