Former Maldives president Mohamed Nasheed was injured in a bomb blast on Thursday. Officials said that the pro-democracy leader was about to get into his car in the capital Male when a bomb planted in a motorcycle went off. "Nasheed escaped an assassination attempt, He is injured, but his condition is stable," a Maldivian government official told AFP. Nasheed became the country's first democratically elected president in the first multi-party elections in 2008. He is currently parliament speaker, the nation's second most powerful position.
