Condemning the murderous attack on a temple priest in Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Monday took a dig at the state government, saying that "even saints are not safe in the administration headed by a saint". Raising questions over the law and order in Uttar Pradesh, the former Chief Minister demanded beefed-up security for saints and other holy men in the state. She demanded that the state government take note of all aspect of the crime and take strict action against the mafia, including forfeiture of their properties. On Saturday, persons connected to the land mafia had shot and injured priest Samrat Das in his shoulder in Gonda district over land issue.
