Arsenal lost in their 1st leg in the semifinals of the Europa League as they went down to Spanish club Villarreal on the road. 2 first-half goals from the home side were enough to guarantee Villarreal a win in the first leg but Arsenal did manage to score a crucial away goal to finish the game at 2-1. The return leg will be played in London next week as the Gunners will be hoping for a strong return. Meanwhile, Manchester United overcame a 2-1 first-half deficit to hammer AS Roma in the other semifinals 6-2. Despite trailing at half time, United fought back to pump in 5 goals in the 2nd half and take the match 6-2 at the Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani scored a brace each in the high scoring game as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men hold the advantage ahead of the 2nd leg in Rome.
