Spain edged out Croatia to enter quarter-finals of Euro 2020 on Monday night as they won an 8-goal thriller 5-3 in extra time.
Croatia took the lead through a dreadful error from Unai Simon, who allowed a backpass to roll past him into the net. But Ferran Torres had different plans for the night. After 2 assists, he himself found the net to make it 3-1 in Spain's favour.
But little did La Roja know what was to follow. Croatian substitutes Mislav Orsic and Mario Pasalic netted two goals in five minutes and forced the game into extra time.
Spain though brought out their A game then. Alvaro Morata scored his 5th goal in European Championships to become Spain's joint-highest scorer in the competition alongside Fernando Torres. Mikel Oyarzabal then added a fifth goal 3 minutes later to finally see off Croatia.
Winning the second-highest-scoring match in European Championship history, Spain entered quarters.
