The European Union on Wednesday agreed to sanction six Russians and one organization over the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in August. During a meeting in Brussels EU ambassadors agreed to freeze assets and impose travel bans. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has responded with a ‘threat to respond in kind’. The Kremlin critic was reportedly poisoned with Novichok nerve agent in Siberia, post which he was moved to Berlin for treatment. Putin's administration has denied being behind the attack. Lavrov had earlier threatened to halt diplomatic contacts if the European countries imposed sanctions.
