New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) — Vishal Dadlani, the renowned singer-composer and one part of the celebrated duo Vishal-Shekhar, is back in the judge’s seat for the 16th season of the popular reality show "Indian Idol." This marks the ninth time Dadlani has donned his judging hat. He shares his thoughts on the resilience and authenticity of music, even in an age where AI technology can mimic the voices of past legendary singers.

While some might be concerned about technology overshadowing human creativity, Dadlani remains optimistic. "When it comes to music, everything is positive," he says, emphasizing that music will always find a way to remain a genuine expression of emotion. "Any machine or software, including AI, are tools. Humans have the choice to decide how to utilize them. If we become dependent, then the beauty of authentic human expression through music is lost. But when applied correctly, they can enhance speed and creativity with access to diverse sounds and samples," Dadlani explained to PTI in an interview.

Joining him on the judge's panel for this season are illustrious singers Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah. Themed "Yaadon Ki Playlist," the show kicked off on October 18 on Sony Entertainment Television and is available for streaming on Sony LIV.

Dadlani, known for hits such as 'Kurban Hua', 'Jee le Zara', 'Jab Mila Tu', 'Tu Meri', and 'Har funn Maula', views his role on the show as a way to “musically refresh” himself. "Each season brings new surprises. Every set of contestants has unique personalities, talents, and quirks. It serves as a musical refresh for me," he states.

When asked about his enduring association with the show, Dadlani points to his deep-seated connection to music. "The connection is essentially music. And then there’s the joy and understanding we share. It's like home ground," he says.

Speaking about the season’s theme, Dadlani notes that music occupies a celebratory role in Indian life, "In India, life is celebrated through music, films, major occasions—all are marked by music. Our memories are interwoven with songs, which serve as markers of time," he adds.

For Dadlani, who was introduced to music at an early age, inspiration is woven into the fabric of everyday life. "As a musician, life is your muse. Not a day goes by without me humming a new tune. These spontaneous thoughts and melodies often evolve into full-fledged songs. What continues to inspire me is the joy and fun found in music," he reflects.

"Indian Idol" has been a fixture on Sony Entertainment Television since its debut in 2004, with multiple successful seasons to its name.
