Los Angeles, Nov 25 (PTI) - Hollywood icon Scarlett Johansson has joined an acclaimed horror franchise, set to star in a forthcoming entry of the "Exorcist" series.

Entertainment news source Deadline has disclosed that the film will be penned and helmed by Mike Flanagan, celebrated for his work on "The Haunting of Hill House". Flanagan expressed his admiration for Johansson's talent: “Scarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to summer blockbusters, and I couldn’t be happier to have her join this 'Exorcist' film,” he stated.

The production team comprises Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and Flanagan's Red Room Pictures.

In addition to the "Exorcist" installment, Johansson will appear in "Ray Gunn" from filmmaker Brad Bird. Set to premiere on Netflix, the film follows Raymund Gunn (portrayed by Johansson), the last human private investigator working in a future where humans and aliens coexist.
