Chandigarh, Oct 9 (PTI) Punjabi actor-singer Rajvir Jawanda was cremated on Thursday with his family and industry peers in attendance. Jawanda, recognized as a promising figure in the Punjabi entertainment world, passed away on Wednesday following a road accident in Himachal Pradesh on September 27. He had been on life support at Fortis Hospital in Mohali due to his severe condition. Prominent Punjabi actors and singers like Satinder Sartaj, Babbu Mann, Jasbir Jassi, Karamjit Anmol, Harbhajan Mann, Ammy Virk, Kanwar Grewal, Kulwinder Billa, and Ranjit Bawa paid homage to the artist. A substantial gathering from his village also came together at his residence.
Jawanda was involved in an accident in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district while traveling to Shimla on a motorcycle. The accident left him with injuries to his head and spine. The 35-year-old also experienced a cardiac arrest before being moved to Fortis Hospital.
Originating from the village of Pona in Ludhiana's Jagraon, Jawanda began his singing career with his 2014 single "Munda Like Me" and gained fame with "Kali Jawande Di" in 2016. He was celebrated for merging folk traditions with contemporary Punjabi pop, capturing the attention of younger audiences. Among his other popular tracks are "Tu dis penda," "Khush reha kar," "Sardari," "Surname," "Afreen," "Landlord," "Down to earth," and "Kangani."
In his acting career, Jawanda appeared alongside Gippy Grewal in the Punjabi film "Subedar Joginder Singh" in 2018, along with roles in "Jind Jaan" and "Mindo Taseeldarni." Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also visited Jawanda's family at their home, expressing his condolences.
