Actor Steve Buscemi, known for his role in ‘Fargo and ‘Broadwalk Empire’, was assaulted by a man in New York City on May 8. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering swelling to his left eye and face. Police said that the assailant took off and is still on the run.
According to AP, Buscemi’s publicist confirmed that he is recovering well and expressed gratitude for the well-wishes.
On May 12, his publicist released a statement that read, ‘Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of random act of violence in the city. He is ok and appreciates everyone's well wishes.’
The police disclosed that the assault occurred on Wednesday, May 8, at approximately 11:48 am. A witness in the vicinity, who observed a portion of the incident, stated, ‘I noticed he was with a woman, and then from the corner of the window, I saw him stumble and fall backward. He immediately got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn't see who struck him.’
‘It worries me for when we close because we close at 11 and it can get scary around that time,’ the woman added.
The New York Police Department has published surveillance images of the suspected assailant. The individual, sporting a beard, is depicted wearing a baseball cap, a blue t-shirt, and black sweatpants.
As of now, the investigation is currently underway and no arrests have been made.
On March 31, Michael Stuhlbarg, Steve Buscemi's 'Boardwalk Empire' co-star, was assaulted in Central Park. He was struck in the back of the neck with a rock while walking, but he pursued and apprehended the attacker, who was then arrested by the police.
