Los Angeles, Nov 24 (PTI) — Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan, known for his visionary approach to cinema, recently shared an intriguing chapter from his career. Twenty years prior to embarking on his latest project, "The Odyssey," Nolan was offered the opportunity to direct the 2004 epic film "Troy." His interest in exploring the ancient world dates back to that period.

Nolan revealed to Empire magazine, “I was originally hired by Warner Bros to direct 'Troy'. Wolfgang Petersen had already developed it, and when the studio decided not to move forward with his superhero venture 'Batman Vs Superman', he wanted the project back.” The Oscar-winning director expressed that his fascination with Homer's Greek epic has lingered over the years.

“At the end of the day, it was a world that I was very interested to explore. Ideas about how to depict iconic moments, especially the Trojan horse, have remained in my thoughts,” shared the director of "Interstellar."

He further elaborated that Warner Bros. eventually gave "Troy" back to Petersen, subsequently offering Nolan the opportunity to direct "Batman Begins" as a replacement.

Ultimately, "Troy" was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, featuring an ensemble cast including Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, Brian Cox, Brendan Gleeson, Rose Byrne, Saffron Burrows, and Orlando Bloom.

Nolan's most recent directorial endeavor was the 2023 epic biographical thriller "Oppenheimer," which focused on the life of American physicist J Robert Oppenheimer and his pivotal role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II.

"The Odyssey," Nolan's upcoming epic, is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026. The film boasts an impressive lineup, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others.
