If you are an instagram user, you must have seen the viral trend "We'll plant one tree for every pet pictures". Wondering what is it and who is planting those trees?

Well, the post was originally made by an insta account Plant A Tree Co. It however, hurriedly took it off, saying that it didn't have resources to keep its end of the deal. That is planting a tree for every pet picture.

Currently, there are over 4 million shares of the post, although Plant A Tree Co. deleted it within minutes of posting.

Seeing how the trend went viral, Plant A Tree Co. decided to start a fundraiser for “Trees For The Future'' so they can plant the 4 million trees. According to their Instagram page, nearly $ 2 million has been raised.

But here's the catch. According to a Mashable report, Trees for the Future posted on their Instagram stories that they are not affiliated with Plant A Tree Co. and urged their followers to donate at their website instead of Plant A Tree Co.'s Instagram account.

This isn't the first time Plant A Tree Co. has come under fire for potentially scamming users on Instagram. According to reports, the company has previously been accused of trying to scam insta users by claiming to be promoting a cause.

So, long story short, your pet photos probably aren't planting any trees. But that should not stop you from posting those cute pics of your pets or planting trees. Keep them coming for the greater common good.
