The ninth round of negotiations for the India-UK free trade agreement ended with comprehensive discussions, according to a joint statement released by the UK's Department for Business and Trade on May 10. India and the UK have been negotiating an FTA since January last year, with a goal towards a comprehensive pact that is expected to significantly enhance the bilateral trading relationship worth an estimated GBP 34 billion in 2022. The 2030 roadmap also talks about doubling trade to $100 billion by the end of the decade. But the FTA talks have been hit by slow progress. A deadline to conclude majority of the discussions by October 2022 was missed. How are the economic ties between India and UK proceeding and what role is the diaspora playing in strengthening relations between both countries?
