A Chhattisgarh high court ruling on Thursday that said ‘Sexual intercourse by a man with his wife, is not rape even if it is by force or against her wish' has triggered a massive outrage.
An editorji poll across several social media platforms has shown that an overwhelming majority of respondents want the ruling to be appealed and reversed.
The Chhattisgarh high court had discharged a man from facing trial for allegedly raping his wife, given that Indian law does not recognise marital rape if the wife is above 15 years of age.
85% of the Twitter respondents favoured an appeal against the ruling, while only 7% said that it should be accepted.
Similar sentiment has been echoed on LinkedIn where 90% said that the controversial ruling must be reversed, while 10% agreed with it.
On Telegram, 100% respondent voted in favour of an appeal against the judgement, whereas on Instagram almost 80% showed their disapproval of the court judgement and favoured an appeal against the ruling.
