Expressing anguish over non-adherence to Covid guidelines in election rallies in West Bengal, the Election Commission on Thursday ordered a ban on physical campaigning except public meetings with a gathering of up to 500 people.

The Poll panel in its order said it has withdrawn permission for bike rallies, roadshows & meetings with gatherings of over 500.

Meanwhile, amid concerns that poll rallies might become super-spreader events, the Kolkata High Court, which was hearing petitions for intervention, sought an action taken report from the Election Commission on Friday when it will take up the petition again.
