The Election Commission has served a notice to Samajwadi Party’s Varanasi candidate Tej Bahadur Yadav and ordered him to procure a no-objection certificate from the BSF. Yadav, was dismissed from service in 2017 after he released a video on poor quality of food served to soldiers. In his earlier nomination papers as an independent candidate, Tej Bahadur admitted to being dismissed from the Army, but in his second set of nomination papers, filed on behalf of the Samajwadi party, the sacked BSF jawan reportedly concealed the fact. Alleging a conspiracy by the govt, Tej Bahadur blamed the EC for acting on the centre's behest.
