Dehydration commonly occurs in a lot of us when the body loses excess fluids and is unable to replace them. But in younger children and older adults, bouts of dehydration could be dangerous.

Here’s a list of foods you could include in your diet to prevent the body from getting dehydrated:

With 95 per cent water, fresh cucumbers could help rejuvenate and hydrate the skin. The anti-inflammatory properties of cucumbers could reduce skin irritation, as well as help, get rid of excess waste from the body.

They’re easily available, can be eaten raw, in the form of chaat or along with a delicious home-made dip!

Iceberg lettuce is also a great hydrating agent. If you prefer other leafy greens, go for spinach, which is extremely rich in fibre, vitamin A and K and a whole lot of potassium.

This one will take you by surprise! Cauliflower is in fact composed of 92 per cent water and is a good way of keeping yourself hydrated. Cauliflower is a good source of vitamin C and K. It could also help lower the risk of diseases like cancer. Grill them, make a cauliflower lettuce wrap or use them as a substitute for mashed potatoes.

A medium-sized tomato is equivalent to half a cup of water! Tomatoes have an impressive nutrient profile. They have a low caloric content and are rich in vitamins and minerals, giving a major boost to the immune system. Use them for sandwiches, in pasta sauce or just add to your curries liberally!
