Former captain and midfielder for the Indian hockey team, Sardar Singh, found support in legend Dhanraj Pillay. Comparing Sardar Singh with himself, Pillay said if he could play a World Cup at 37, why can't Sardar Singh do the same at 32? Sardar Singh announced his retirement earlier this year, but blamed Hockey India's High Performance Director, David John, for ending his career.
