With accelerating number of Covid-19 cases in UK and Europe, the World Health Organization called the situation 'very serious'.

The UK government is now mulling a ‘short period’ of tighter restrictions likely to be announced next week. UK health secretary, Matt Hancock, has refused to rule out the imposition of a second national lockdown. In the UK, the number of people in hospital is doubling every eight days, according to govt data.

More than half of European countries have reported more than 10% increase in cases in the past two weeks. Weekly cases have now exceeded the March numbers when Covid-19 was in a peak in Europe.

Experts say the second wave of infection is a direct result of resuming several activities across Europe, including the resumption of schools.
