The month of September in 2020 was the hottest September on record, with unusually high temperatures recorded across Siberia, the Middle East, and in parts of South America and Australia, said the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service.
Last month was 0.5C warmer than last year's September, which was the previous record high for the month. The successive rise in climate warming is a clear indication of temperatures being driven up by emissions from human actions, say scientists.
2020 is also projected to be the warmest year on record for at least Europe, a phenomenon that has already contributed to record wildfires in California and Australia.
