China has announced that it would be ready to compete with the US-based Global Positioning System (GPS) by the first half of next year. According to reports, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System’s core was completed earlier in December, and the last two satellites will make it operational by June 2020. The program is key to China’s long-term plans to dominate the next generation of telecommunications services.
