Children who nap midday are a happier lot, according to a new study by the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, Irvine. It states that children who sleep 30-60 minutes during the day at least 3 times a week are not only happier but have more self control and may also excel academically. The study observed 3,000 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders between the ages of 10 and 12. The results, published in the journal SLEEP, showed that such kids also had higher IQs. The study could pave the way for future interventional work on adolescent sleepiness.
