A roller coaster Premier League season finally ended on Sunday night and when the dust settled, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea were the final 4 teams to have booked a berth for the Champions League.
City, which had already won the League a week ago, thrashed Everton 5-0 in their final game as Sergio Aguero marked his final appearance at the Etihad Stadium with a brace. Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne too scored a goal each.
Manchester United finished 2nd after beating Wolverhampton 2-1. Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Nelson Semedo equalised in the 39th minute. Mata converted from the spot in first-half injury time to put United back on top. His goal proved to be the winner.
Liverpool secured a Champions League berth as they finished 3rd after beating Crystal Palace 2-0. Sadio Mane scored a brace and has now scored in each of his last 8 appearances against Crystal Palace.
Chelsea too ended a chaotic season with a 4th spot finish despite going down 2-1 against Aston Villa. Tottenham came to their rescue as they beat Leicester City 4-2 courtesy a brace by Gareth Bale. Leicester City would have qualified had they won but that didn't happen.
Arsenal who were not in contention for a top 4 finish ended their season with a consolation 2-0 win against Brighton. Nicolas Pepe scored twice to finish the season with 16 goals as the Gunners finished 8th on the table.
