Can celebrate festivals later: Uddhav cancels religious gatherings as Covid cases rise

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said Monday the health of citizens was a priority and celebrations could be held later as well.

Maharashtra is gearing up for Ganpati festival and the state is seeing a continous surge in Covid-19 cases since over last ten days. 

The Chief Minister, along with several other senior cabinet ministers, took part in the Disaster management meeting held Monday.

Uddhav Thackeray said people can celebrate festivals later and there was a need to prioritise the lives and health of citizens.

The chief minister said in a statement that the situation can go out of hand in view of the spike in daily cases

Uddhav Thackeray directed the cancellation of all social, religious, and political gatherings and meetings, as experts say crowding could lead to a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra.
